"No matter where you go, there you are."

The Venom movie will feature Carnage

Many of us were surprised to hear that the Venom movie was still going ahead. Then we were flabbergasted to hear that Tom Hardy would be playing Eddie Brock / Venom. Suddenly it had gotten very interesting.

It seemed that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) would not be involved in the Venom movie, so the question was who would the symbiote be going up against? It seems that he may be going up against Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage. He is a serial killer who joins with another symbiote, produced by Venom, to become Carnage.

Carnage was once a serial killer known as Cletus Kasady, and became Carnage after merging with the offspring of the alien symbiote called Venom during a prison breakout. The symbiote amplified his psychotic nature making him even less mentally stable than he had been previously, and therefore even more dangerous. An interesting note is that, unlike Venom, Carnage is a singular entity, referring to himself as “I” instead of “We”, because the symbiote has actually merged into Kasady’s bloodstream.

It is all very exciting and Carnage is a very sick and twisted bad guy, but it could end up being a CGI fight-fest. They could also be rushing things by bringing us both Venom and Carnage in the one film. I still wonder how they are going to do this without Spider-Man being involved. However, if they get a cracking actor to play Cletus then there could be some electrifying scenes with Tom Hardy. Who would you like to see play Cletus?

It is due out on 5th October 2018 with production beginning later this year.

THR had the news and the fact that Holland is only contractually obligated to Spider-Man 2 and 3, but the intention is to bring him into the spinoffs and possibly other Marvel films. I hope we do get to see Spidey go up against Venom and Carnage at some point.

“Marvel is so good at [working around your schedule],” Holland told THR. “They’re very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and yeah, they try and fix it up so you can work.”

Meanwhile, Homecoming villain Michael Keaton has a deal to play the Vulture for just one movie. Another spinoff, Silver & Black, doesn’t have a release date but is eyeing a fall shoot and features characters Silver Sable and Black Cat. Other projects will focus on Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio. The idea, says a studio source, is to build out a world gradually rather than launch one immediately, as they had been trying with Spider-Man villain ensemble Sinister Six, which has been shelved.

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) will be directing from a script by Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower). Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing with Amy Pascal. Columbia Pictures executives Palak Patel and Eric Fineman will overseeing the movie for the studio.
