Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is heading to Blu-ray

Batman: The Animated series is still one of the best portrayals of the Dark Knight Detective. 1993’s Mask of the Phantasm was a full length feature that got a cinema release, but didn’t do that well at the box office. A shame as, like the animated series, it is damn fine.

When the city’s most feared gangsters are systematically eliminated, the Caped Crusader is blamed. But prowling the Gotham night is a shadowy new villain, the Phantasm, a sinister figure with some link to Batman’s past. Can the Dark Knight elude the police, capture the Phantasm and clear his own name?

Directed by Eric Radomski and Bruce Timm, the film stars Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker.

Warner Archive have announced that the film will now be getting a Blu-ray release, which is fantastic news.

The new Blu-ray will have the film in both the original theatrical 16×9 aspect ratio (1.78:1) AND open matte 4×3 (1.37:1) aspect ratio.

Hopefully this will sell like gangbusters and we will get Batman: The Animated Series on Blu-ray.
