Sung Kang joins Robbie and Stephen Amell’s Code 8

Last year I shared a very cool short film called Code 8. It was from Arrow’s Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell.

A desperate young man possessing special powers clashes with a militarized police force after committing a petty crime.

The film takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized.

Sung Kang

The story of the short follows a young man with special powers (Robbie Amell) struggling to find work as a day laborer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer (Kang) and the autonomous robots backing him up. To earn money, he joins a criminal world led by Garrett, played by Stephen Amell (Arrow).

The original short was an action/science fiction short film, produced as a proof of concept for a feature film version. It looks like the IndieGoGo campaign was a success as they have begun work on the feature and Sung Kang (Fast and Furious) who appeared in the short will also be back for the feature. He will play Agent Park, the head of a militarized police unit in the indie directed by Jeff Chan and shooting through mid-July in Toronto.

Kari Matchett, Greg Bryk and Aaron Abrams also star in the film. Robbie and Stephen Amell are executive producing along with Lee Kim and Mary Anne Waterhouse.

You can check out the short film below and the feature is due out in 2019.
