"No matter where you go, there you are."

Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams join the New Mutants movie

It had been rumoured for a while, but it is now official – Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) are joining the New Mutants.

Taylor-Joy will play Magik, a girl who has learned sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel. She is also the sister of Colossus. Williams will play Wolfsbane, a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.

That’s mighty fine casting.

The team is also thought to be made up of Danielle Moonstar, Sunspot, Cannonball and Warlock.

Josh Boone is directing and co-writing the screenplay with Knate Lee and Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber. The plot is rumoured to involve the team battling the classic Demon Bear. Will there be any crossover with the Legion TV show? Probably not, but you never know.

The film is also being described as a “Stephen King meets John Hughes” style horror movie. That sounds interesting to me and it would be good if they go a different way than the previous Mutant movies. Does the John Hughes reference also mean this will be set in the 80s?

Filming is due to begin in July and the film is due out on 13th April 2018.
