Some more plot details have surfaced for the Rampage movie

Dwayne Johnson is starring in the big screen adaptation of the Rampage video game from 1986. That was the one with the giant Gorilla, Werewolf and Lizard Man destroying cities. Brad Peyton (San Andreas) is directing the film, which also stars Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Naomie Harris, Marley Shelton, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald, Breanne Hill, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Joe Manganiello.
Plot details had been scarce, but Splash Report shared some new info.
Spoilers ahead:
Johnson plays an ex-marine who’s now a primatologist that raised George at the San Diego Zoo. He taught the ape sign language, and they share a special bond. Naomie Harris (Moonlight) plays a fired Griffin Tech scientist who helps our protagonist in trying to stop Chicago from being destroyed by those humongous beasts.
What do you make of that? It’s a change from the video game, which had humans turning into the giant monsters. I suppose a lot of it depends on the tone of the piece as the graphics from the original game were quite cartoony. It is basically another Kaiju movie. Personally, I think it would work better if they went for the full on giant monster movie with lots of peril and destruction. I hope they don’t go for a broad comedy kind of thing.
I really don’t know whether this will end up being a great big popcorn event type movie or an absolute train-wreck. I suppose once we see the creature designs we will have a better idea for the tone they are going for.
Joe Manganiello did share part of his outfit (including a Punisher badge).
