"No matter where you go, there you are."

Edward James Olmos will be Gaff once more in Blade Runner 2049

“You’ve done a man’s job, sir. I guess you’re through, huh?”

Blade Runner 2049 stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, David Dastmalchian, Hiam Abbass, Jared Leto and Robin Wright. It is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sciario, Prisoners).

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new Blade Runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD Blade Runner who has been missing for 30 years.

It seems that Harrison Ford is not the only actor returning from the original Blade Runner movie. It turns out Edward James Olmos will also be back to play Gaff. Although he only had a few scenes in the original film, it was a memorable character.

Olmos mentioned the news when talking on Thetrend Talk Show:

This is the first time that I’m telling the world that, yes, I am going to be Gaff in Blade Runner 2049.

Well, it’s not about Gaff, but it’s about someone who is going to try to find out certain things about us back then. My role is like it was in the original – that time, I had only four scenes, in this I only have one. But again, it’s a poignant little scene.

The film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Denis Villeneuve has also said that it is going to be rated R.
