Johnny Depp is joining the cast of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them for the sequel which David Yates will direct early next year. There is no word on what Depp’s role will be, but Deadline report that we may be able to spot him briefly in the first film, and a recent preview seems to show the back of his head.

Rumour has it he will be playing Gellert Grindelwald, a Dark wizard who, on a list of “Most Dangerous Dark Wizards of All Time,” would be second only to Voldemort, according to Rita Skeeter’s book The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. His name is first mentioned on Dumbledore’s Chocolate Frog card which notes that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in 1945.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Directed by David Yates, the film stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, Carmen Ejogo, Jenn Murray, Faith Wood-Blagrove and Colin Farrell.

Below there is a video featuring Ezra Miller who talks about a link between Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens on 18th November 2016.
