The Rules Don’t Apply in the final trailer for Warren Beatty’s new film

Warren Beatty directs and stars in Rules Don’t Apply. This is Beatty’s first directorial gig since 1997’s Bulworth.

The film stars Lily Collins (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) as a religiously devout actress and Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as her equally conservative driver, both of whom work for Beatty’s Hughes, who forbids entanglements between the employees.

It’s Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist Marla Mabrey (Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her personal driver Frank Forbes (Ehrenreich), only two weeks on the job and also from a religiously conservative background.

Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have an intimate relationship with a contract actress. But Hughes’ absurd behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.

Beatty has stressed that the young lovers are the focal point of the story not Howard Hughes, who Beatty also plays in the film. “I never lost my curiosity about him,” says Beatty. “It’s just that I don’t run around doing movies all the time.”

The film also stars Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Matthew Broderick, Candice Bergen, and Steve Coogan.

Rules Don’t Apply opens in cinemas on 23rd November 2016.
