Sinbad is getting ready to sail once more

I do love the old Sinbad movies, although usually not because of Sinbad himself. The Ray Harryhausen films are my favourite, but Douglas Fairbanks Jr was very cool as the character.

It seems that we will be getting a new version of the classic adventurer as Studio 8 has won a bidding war for the character. For those of you not aware, Sinbad was the sailor and hero of a story-cycle of Middle Eastern origin; he is described as living in Baghdad, during the Abbasid Caliphate. During his voyages throughout the seas east of Africa and south of Asia, he has fantastic adventures going to magical places, meeting monsters, and encountering supernatural phenomena.

Lots of potential for epic movies to be had.

Kyle Killen (Lone Star, Mind Games) is set to write the script, while Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones) is attached to direct.

I hope they get it right.

Who would you like to see play Sinbad the Sailor?

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV, who count The Fighter and the Divergent movie series among their extensive credits, will produce.
