The Blade Runner sequel gets a new title

Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 Blade Runner stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, David Dastmalchian, Hiam Abbass, Jared Leto and Robin Wright. It is to be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sciario, Prisoners).

It has been announced that the new film will be called Blade Runner 2049. The original was set in 2019, so the sequel is 30 years later, and would account for Deckard having aged. It is not the most exciting of titles, but better than just a plain Blade Runner 2. They also released the image above that shows Villeneuve, Scott, Ford and Gosling.

The sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. The film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

In an episode of the After The Ending podcast I do, we went after the ending of the original Blade Runner and gave on our thoughts as to what could happen in the sequel. You can listen to that below. I wonder if we got close?
