600full-eiza-gonzalezEiza González (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) is the latest to join the Robert Rodriguez film based on the Battle Angel Alita manga by Yukito Kishiro.

Set in the 26th century, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL tells the story of Alita, an amnesiac female cyborg who is rescued from a scrapyard by a doctor. The rebuilt Alita, remembering only her training in a deadly martial art, becomes a hunter-warrior, tracking down and eliminating vicious criminals. Within the context of an epic action-adventure, the film will explore a young woman’s journey of self-discovery and finding love.

Rosa Salazar is Alita, Christoph Waltz is Dr. Dyson Ido, Mahershala Ali is Vector, and Ed Skrein is Zapan. The film will also star Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson.

James Cameron will co-write the script with Laeta Kalogridis. Cameron has stated that he intends to adapt “the spine story” of Yukito Kishiro’s original manga, with a specific focus on the first four books. He especially wants to include the fictional sport “motorball” from the fourth volume. Cameron will also produce alongside Jon Landau.

The film is set for release in July 2018.
