Monsters Unleashed is the new Marvel comic heading our way

Marvel’s new comic book series, Monsters Unleashed, will see the heroes of the Marvel Universe fighting the giant monsters that used to pop up all the time back in the day. So we’ve got the likes of Fin Fang Foom and Devil Dinosaur, but it also looks like Groot is on the side of the bad guys.

Raining down from the outer reaches of the galaxy, rising up from the depths of the ocean, and emerging from the recesses of the Earth – monsters are staking their claim to the planet. The only thing standing in their destructive path: the united Super Heroes of the Marvel Universe.

It’s all hands on deck, as the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Inhumans and Champions, joined by a who’s who of solo stars – Deadpool, Spider-Man, Black Panther – battle an endless deluge of monsters and the mysterious force that controls them. Will the combined might of the Marvel Super Heroes be enough to save the day? Or will they need help to arrive from the unlikeliest of places?

Written by Uncanny X-Men‘s Cullen Bunn it will feature five different artists – Steve McNiven, Leinil Yu, Adam Kubert, Salvador Larroca, and Greg Land.

“It’s an all hands on deck situation,” Bunn said. “Imagine something like the Hulk, only much bigger. With the destructive force those creatures have, the heroes will have to mobilize much more quickly. The heroes find themselves very quickly in a situation where they have no downtime, they have no chance to take a breath. They’re moving constantly against what are essentially cataclysmic threats over and over again.”

“If there ever were a monster who stood 10 stories high or taller and created mayhem in the Marvel Universe over last several decades, they’re gonna be in the story,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso told EW.

“Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don Heck, and Herb Trimpe – all of these guys created incredible monsters that we remember from my childhood. They’re the equivalent of those Ray Harryhausen-type monsters, those rubber suits that thrill us. To see them coming back, and to take them seriously, it’s a lot of fun.”

“Our goal is to cram as many mammoth monsters of Marvel into Monsters Unleashed as will fit on the page,” editor Mark Paniccia added. “If you’ve got a personal favorite, chances are very good you’ll see them causing some mayhem in this series.”

I do love giant monsters so this should be a lot of fun.

The Monsters will be Unleashed in January 2017.
