It is still hard to believe that Terry Pratchett is no longer with us. I do miss him. However, it looks like some of his work is finally heading to the big screen as it was announced at Discworld Convention 2016 that Mort was get a film adaptation.

Josh Kirby, the brilliant artist who did all those wonderful Discworld covers, shared the news.

Huge announcement at DWCon 2016, the big screen version of Mort is in the works!!

Here is the book synopsis:

Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job.

Henceforth, Death is no longer going to be the end, merely the means to an end. It’s an offer Mort can’t refuse. As Death’s apprentice he’ll have free board, use of the company horse – and being dead isn’t compulsory. It’s a dream job – until he discovers that it can be a killer on his love life…

Mort is a great one to do as Death is such a good character. It has already been adapted for the radio and stage.

As the image shows, Terry Rossio is writing the screenplay. He has worked on Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean and Aladdin. It is not clear whether this is going to be live action or animated. Either way it will be definitely worth waiting for.

Who would you like to see in the film? Who should voice Death?

  1. Please nod make a movie that will justify terry pratchetys genius .in please in time i prat

  2. Well there is only one Christopher Lee, can we simply synthesize his voice?

  3. Sam Elliot would be perfect as Death!!!

  4. Brian Blessed would be great as Death as he always seems to speak in capitals anyway.

  5. Gotta agree with Fijnie, Brian Blessed would be great to voice Death if animated

  6. Ian Richardson, he voices Death in the Hogfather. perfect

  7. I hope the script will be based on the screenplay that Pratchett wrote himself – it’s different from the book, and riotously funny. It would make a movie over 2.5 hours, but I thought it was great. I don’t have a copy as it belonged to a production company I had some contact with a long time ago – so please don’t ask!!

  8. Well, the Death character was spot-on in Hogfather. Just do that again and you have continuity going. Can’t wait for this one…. next to the city watch books this is one of my top picks for movie, great to see it coming

  9. With Ian Richardson gone I think it’s Ian McKellen all the way

  10. I think Jeremy Irons would be great as the voice of Death !

  11. When I saw who was doing the adaption my heart sank – a yank and they will end up disneyfying it. They will also de-witt it as Americans (as a rule) wouldn’t understand it or it will offend their religious sensitivities.

  12. I like the idea of Brian blessed but he needs a smoother tone like idris Elba I think

  13. Disney getting their hands on it is enough to ruin it. Then it has to be dumbed down for American audiences…. ugh. Love Pratchett., Hate, hate, hate Disney.
