Here is a new poster for Nate Parker’s powerful slave drama The Birth of a Nation.

Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.

Parker wrote and directed the film. He also stars as Nat Turner, the African-American slave who led a slave rebellion of both free and enslaved blacks in Southampton County, Virginia on August 21, 1831.

The film also stars Aunjanue Ellis as Nancy Turner, Nat’s mother, Gabrielle Union as his wife, Ester, with Armie Hammer as a slaveowner Samuel Turner, Aja Naomi King, Penelope Ann Miller, Colman Domingo, Mark Boone Jr, Dwight Henry, Esther Scott, Roger Guenveur Smith and Jackie Earle Haley.
