GSP Studios, the production company behind the feature film adaptation of the NJ Crisp play That Good Night, today announced the end of Principal Photography following a 31-day shoot, with the unveiling of the first official film still, featuring John Hurt.

Ralph, a once-famous screenwriter, is in his seventies and terminally ill. He has two final missions in life: to ensure he doesn’t become a burden to his younger devoted wife, Anna, and to be reconciled to his long-abandoned son, Michael, as he goes “into that good night”. But Ralph wrecks all hope of reconciliation when he picks a fight with Michael’s girlfriend, Cassie. Later, alone, Ralph receives the sinister and mysterious “Visitor” whose services he has hired to provide the painless ending to his life. But The Visitor plays a devastating trick.

Set in their luxury villa in the remote hilltops that surround the Algarve coastline of Portugal, this bittersweet drama bravely tackles issues of assisted dying, nature and the meaning of life and death. Based on the hugely successful stage play by NJ Crisp, its brilliant and witty arguments address issues that we traditionally avoid.

As was recently announced, THAT GOOD NIGHT also stars the veteran British actor Charles Dance, in the role of the elusive Visitor opposite Hurt. Rounding out the cast is Sofia Helin (THE BRIDGE), Erin Richards (GOTHAM, THE QUIET ONES,), Max Brown (AGENT CARTER, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), Noah Jupe (THE NIGHT MANAGER) and Joana Santos (LACOS DE SANGUE, MAR SOLGADO).

The film has shot for just over five weeks on the Algarve coastline of Portugal, primarily in Monte Seco, as well as Tavira, Praia dos Olhos de Agua and the region around capital city, Faro, with the support of the Loule Film Office and Algarve Film Commission.

Producers Alan Latham and Charles Savage, who also wrote the screenplay, commented upon wrap: “The weather was rather unkind for the first few weeks of the shoot, but our cast and crew have been exceptional and it’s testament to everyone’s hard work that we’ve had such a successful shoot on THAT GOOD NIGHT. It’s thanks also in no small part to the generosity and warm welcome we’ve received here on the Algarve”.

GSP Studios is handling worldwide sales on THAT GOOD NIGHT, which will headline their Cannes slate this week and offer a first look at scenes from the film for interested buyers. Financing for the film has come through GSP Studios, Red Rock Entertainment and Goldfinch Entertainment.

THAT GOOD NIGHT boasts a strong line-up of talent behind the camera including Director of Photography Richard Stoddard (DR WHO, THE PASSING, BEING HUMAN), Costume Designer Charlotte Morris (LEGENDS, SILENT WITNESS, MERLIN) and Hair and Make-Up Designer Lesley Lamont Fisher (INDIAN SUMMERS, LIFE IN SQUARES, BLACK MIRROR) and Production Designer Humphrey Jaeger (HETTY FEATHER, THE HOARDER). Executive Producers of THAT GOOD NIGHT include Paul Ward, Julian Hicks and Gary Collins.
