Tomb Raider has a new Lara Croft in the shape of Alicia Vikander

There had been rumours that The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley was going to be the new Lara Croft, but it turns out that Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) has got the role.

MGM, Warner Bros. and GK Films are behind the new project and Roar Uthaug (The Wave) will direct.

The new film seems to follow events of the last two video games as it will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.

Vikander is not someone I had thought about for the role, but she is a fantastic actress and I am sure she will do wonders as Lara.

MGM and Warner Bros. are co-producing the film, with MGM overseeing production. They acquired the rights from GK Films, who had previously purchased the film rights in 2011 from Square Enix Ltd.

How do you feel about Vikander playing Lara Croft?
