Ben Affleck Batman

Ben Affleck was one of the better things in the messy Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. His Batman wasn’t really the Batman I know and love from the comics, but he did have some good moments.

There had been talk that Affleck was going to be directing and starring in a solo Batman movie. That was confirmed yesterday by Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara at CinemaCon“We’re working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman movie.”

They are also working on at least 10 DC films that will be released over the next 5 years.

There is no word on what the plot will be, or what part of Batman’s timeline it would be set in. I would love it to be the younger Batman, before Dawn of Justice, just to see him in his prime. However, I think DC and Warner Bros. have painted themselves into a corner going with the older Batman. They also seem determined to make their cinematic versions of the characters different to what we see in the comics.

What I would really love to see is a Batman movie set over the course of one night. Show him taking down some street thugs and discovering a mystery that he chases up over the course of the night. That way we’d get to see the Dark Knight Detective, some street level action and then build up to a showdown with one of the supervillains, preferably one that hasn’t been seen on the big screen before.

With regards the DC movies, Affleck will next be seen in Justice League: Part One. Production on that has begun in London.

That film will also star Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amber Heard as Queen Mera, and J.K. Simmons set to appear as Commissioner Gordon.

The Zack Snyder directed movie will debut in theaters on November 10, 2017.
