Robocop Returns gets a new director

Neill Blomkamp teased us with amazing concept art for a Aliens sequel that will never happen. Then he brought word of a sequel to 1987’s original Robocop film (ignoring the previous sequels in the style of Terminator and Halloween) that could possibly have Peter Weller back in the suit in some way.

Now THR is reporting that Abe Forsythe, director of the zombie comedy Little Monsters, has been brought in by MGM to direct the film.

Atlas Entertainment’s Richard Suckle, along with Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, the screenwriters of the original film, are producing. Neumeier and Miner wrote the script for the sequel years ago with Justin Rhodes (who was one of the many writers on Terminator Dark Fate, writing the most recent draft.

Forsyth will rewrite the most recent script.

I do love Robocop, but I fear that this will end up going the way of Terminator: Dark Fate and we will probably have the original Robocop destroyed in some way and then a basic re-do of the original film. I hope I am wrong and it ends up being a good movie.

What would you like to see in a new Robocop movie?
