The 2017 film adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower was a bit of a disappointment. However, there is a TV series in the works at Amazon. It was originally going to tie into the Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey movie, but plans appear to have changed substantially.

Variety is reporting that Jasper Pääkkönen (BlacKkKlansman, Vikings) and Sam Strike (Nightflyers, Mindhunter, Eastenders) have both been cast in the pilot

Strike will play Roland Deschain, also known as The Gunslinger, while Pääkkönen is believed to be playing The Man in Black, also known as Marten Broadcloak and Randall Flagg.

It looks like the show will be more of a prequel to the main tale as it will focus on how Roland became a gunslinger and his first encounter with the villainous Man in Black. I think there was a comic book mini-series that focussed on the younger Roland.

The project is produced by Media Rights Capital (MRC). Glen Mazzara is attached as the executive producer and showrunner.
