Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrivial, Blade Runner 2049) is working on a new adaptation of DuneLegendary acquired film and TV rights to the Frank Herbert novels Dune in 2016 and they plan on making multiple films.

Set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which noble houses, in control of individual planets, owe allegiance to the Padishah Emperor, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose noble family accepts the stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis. As this planet is the only source of the oracular spice melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe, control of Arrakis is a coveted—and dangerous—undertaking. The story explores the multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the Empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice.

Timothée ChalametRebecca Ferguson and Dave Bautista  have already been cast. They will now be joined by Stellan Skarsgård (Thor, The Avengers, Mamma Mia!) who will be playing the villainous Baron Harkonnen

VLADIMIR HARKONNEN (10,110-10,193) Commonly referred to as Baron Harkonnen, his title is officially Siridar (planetary governor) Baron. Vladimir Harkonnen is the direct-line male descendant of the Bashar Abulurd Harkonnen who was banished for cowardice after the Battle of Corrin. The return of House Harkonnen to power generally is ascribed to adroit manipulation of the whale fur market and later consolidation with melange wealth from Arrakis

Chalamet will be playing Paul Atreides. Kyle MacLachlan played the same character in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation. Ferguson will portray Atreides’ mother, Lady Jessica, and Bautista will play Glossu Rabban Harkonnen also known as The “Beast” Rabban and nephew of Baron Harkonnen.

I really like the casting so far.
