Denis Villeneuve(Sicario, Arrivial, Blade Runner 2049) is working on a new adaptation of DuneLegendary acquired film and TV rights to the Frank Herbert novels Dune in 2016 and they plan on making multiple films.

Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson have already been cast, but they will now be joined by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Blade Runner 2049).

Chalamet will be playing Paul Atreides. Kyle MacLachlan played the same character in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation.

Set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which noble houses, in control of individual planets, owe allegiance to the Padishah Emperor, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose noble family accepts the stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis. As this planet is the only source of the oracular spice melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe, control of Arrakis is a coveted—and dangerous—undertaking. The story explores the multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the Empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice.

According to THR Ferguson will portray Atreides’ mother, Lady Jessica, and Bautista will play Glossu Rabban Harkonnen also known as The “Beast” Rabban.

So far this is shaping up very nicely and I cannot wait to hear more about it.
