Moominvalley is an upcoming Finnish-British animated family drama series, scheduled for release in 2019. It is an adaptation of writer-illustrator Tove Jansson’s classic Moomin books and feature a blend of 2D and 3D animating techniques.

Some new images of the show have been released.

The cast in the UK version of the series includes Taron Egerton (Moomintroll), Rosamund Pike (Moominmamma), Matt Berry (Moominpappa), Kate Winslet (Mrs Fillyjonk), Bel Powley, Edvin Endre, Warwick Davis, Jennifer Saunders, Katie Leung, Alison Steadman, Rebecca Root, Will Self, Matt Lucas and Richard Ayoade.

The series consists of thirteen twenty-two-minute episodes. Moominvalley hits Sky One, Sky Kids and NOW TV in Spring 2019 in the UK and on public broadcaster YLE in Finland in February 2019.

The pioneering animation is produced by an outstandingly talented team, including Oscar®-winning director Steve Box; BAFTA® and Emmy®-winning producer John Woolley, Emmy-winning writing duo Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler and creative director and executive producer Marika Makaroff. The series is produced by Gutsy Animation, a production company based in Tove Jansson’s home city, Helsinki.

The original score of the series has been composed by Finnish musicians Pekka Kuusisto and Samuli Kosminen. Samuli Kosminen is a renowned percussionist and Pekka Kuusisto is one of the most celebrated Nordic classical violinists. His father composed with Tove Jansson in the 1970s and wrote the Finnish National Opera’s Moomin Opera in 1974.

Gutsy has also struck a deal with Columbia Records, part of Sony Music Entertainment, which will see numerous Sony artists contribute songs to the show’s soundtrack. Each of the episodes will include a featured track by one of the record label’s artists.
