Daniel Dae Kim may be joining the Hellboy movie as Ben Daimio

A while back there came news that Ed Skrein would be playing Ben Daimio in the new Hellboy movie. Daimio is a member of the B.P.R.D. and in the comic he is Japanese-America. As Ed Skrein is neither of those, there was a bit of an outcry and Skrein stepped down from the project.

“It is clear that representing this character in a culturally accurate way holds significance for people, and that to neglect this responsibility would continue a worrying tendency to obscure ethnic minority stories and voice in the Arts. I feel it is important to honour and respect that. There I have decided to step down so the role can be cast appropriately,” said Skrein. You can read his response here.

Now Korean American actor Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii 5-0) is in talks for the role of Daimio, the rugged military man and member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. I’ve always enjoyed Kim’s work. He is a solid actor and should do great things in the role if everything works out.

The film’s working title is Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen and has a script by Andrew Cosby (Eureka), Christopher Golden, and Mike Mignola (the creator of Hellboy). Ian McShane (John Wick, American Gods) is playing Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm (pronounced Broom). Milla Jovovich will be playing the Blood Queen and Sasha Lane (American Honey) has been cast as Alice Monaghan.
