Watch the first trailer for Star Trek: Discovery

Set roughly ten years before the events of the original series, Star Trek: Discovery shows a never before seen era that shaped Federation history. First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) encounters new ships, worlds and villains as the threat of war looms.

There have been problems with the production, but the first trailer is here and it is looking mighty fine. However, I am not sure what to think about the script as the little bits of dialogue do seem a bit cheesy. We get to see the new ship and crew along with the new look Klingons (they seem to be a mix of the original series and Next Generation Klingons). We also have the mighty Doug Jones in some cool alien makeup. I’m also not sure whether this is set in the original or Kelvin timeline (the one from the recent films). Too early to tell whether this is going to be hit or miss, but I will definitely be checking it out.

The series will feature 15 episodes, up from the previously announced 13, and include a companion after-show, “Talking Trek,” presented on CBS All Access.

The show stars Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, Doug Jones as science officer Saru, Anthony Rapp as fellow science officer Stamets, Terry Serpico as Starfleet admiral Anderson, Maulik Pancholy as chief medical officer Nambue, Sam Vartholomeos as junior Starfleet officer Connor, Mary Wiseman as Cadet Tilly, James Frain as Sarek, astrophysicist and father of Spock, Chris Obi as Klingon leader T’Kuvma, Mary Chieffo as L’Rell, a Klingon commander, Shazad Latif as Lieutenant Tyler, Rekha Sharma as Commander Landry, Kenneth Mitchell as Kol, Clare McConnell as Dennas, Damon Runyan as Ujilli, Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd, and Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou.
