Dwayne Johnson & Jason Statham are heading for a Fast and Furious spin-off

The Fate of the Furious (read our review) has been doing wonders at the box office (at the time of writing it had made $685,452,670 worldwide), but it seems there will only be a couple more Fast and Furious films.

Producer Neal Moritz has confirmed that the series’ tenth film will be its last.

Yeah, the plan is to make two more movies. Our plan is to go as quickly as we can under the idea that we gotta have a great story and be ready to go. And, honestly, we have some big themes and things we’re talking about, we’re just not there in terms of where exactly we’re gonna go yet. We kind of have the ending point of the franchise, but we don’t know the in-betweens yet.

However, Universal won’t let a moneymaker like that die so they’re obviously looking at having a spin-off or two. The favourite involves Dwayne Johnson’s U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs to form an unlikely alliance with Jason Statham’s Decker Shaw. In fact it is rumoured that there was a post-credit scene shot for the end of Furious 8 that would featured the two characters together, but that was pulled by Vin Diesel who is kind of the guardian of the series.

Still, a Lucas and Hobbs teamup film is the one that Universal are pursuing and Deadline say that it is in early stages, but they’ve met on the concept, which sources said will be scripted by Chris Morgan, the chief writer of the series. If it does go ahead it may arrive before we see Fast and Furious 10.

I for one would be up for those two having their own film as they are great on screen and fit so well into the ridiculousness of the Fast and Furious films.

How do you feel about a Lucas and Hobbs spin-off?
