The Random – The Wizard of Oz, Gundam Wing, Deadpool 2, Labyrinth and more

  • New Line Cinema has scooped up a pitch from writer Mike Van Waes for an original horror film set in the world of The Wizard of OzTHR
  • Bumblebee, the first spinoff of the Transformers movies, has got Travis Knight (Kubo And The Two Strings) to direct – Deadline
  • David Harbour (Stranger Things) is another actor in the running to play Cable in Deadpool 2. Fox has screen-tested the actor, who plays Chief Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, to play the time travelling mutant in the upcoming sequel – The Wrap
  • In a fine piece of casting we have the news that Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Game of Thrones) is joining Gotham as Ra’s al Ghul.
  • The soundtrack and score to Labyrinth is getting a new vinyl pressing. The release date is set for May 12 – Bull Moose
  • Amy Acker (Angel, Person of Interest) is joining Fox’s untitled X-Men pilot in the female lead role. The series centers on Stephen Moyer and Acker as ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. Emma Dumont is also in the show and will be playing Polaris.
  • Gundam Wing is coming to Blu-ray and DVD late this year.

  • CW’s Black Lightning has cast Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain with key roles. They join Cress Williams who was recently announced as the star of the superhero pilot.
  • Mondo have got this lovely Back to the Future poster by George Bletsis, and some cool BTTF enamel pins up for sale.

  • Ken Leung (Night Shift, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lost) has landed the key role of Karnak in the Marvel’s Inhumans television series for ABC. Karnak is Black Bolt’s cousin and closest advisor. His gift is an ability to see the fault in all things – people, plans, structures, everything. He’s Black Bolt’s most ardent supporter and strategist and is often seen as the royal family’s planner and philosopher.
  • Dr. Fate is a new character for Injustice 2.

  • The Big Bang Theory prequel, Sheldon, has cast Iain Armitage and Zoe Perry. The show centers on the young version Sheldon, played currently by Jim Parsons. Armitage will play the title character and Perry will play his mother. Perry is the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who plays Sheldon’s mother in The Big Bang Theory. A nice bit of casting there.
  • Marvel has announced a new five-part event series spinning out of the Venom ongoing comic called Edge of Venomverse. The story unleashes sinister symbiotes across the Marvel Universe, wreaking untold havoc and wanton destruction. It is due out in June.
