Jake Gyllenhaal as already done the video game movie when he starred in Prince of Persia. That wasn’t so hot, but one based on Ubisoft’s The Division could possibly work a lot better.

Variety have the news that Gyllenhaal is attached to star in the film adaptation.

Developed and published by Ubisoft, with assistance from Red Storm Entertainment, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the third-person shooter is set in a dystopian New York City in the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic. The player, who is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, commonly referred to as simply “The Division,” is tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak and combating criminal activity in its wake.

There is lots of potential with that kind of set up and Gyllenhaal is a superb actor. Apparently, he is also on board as producer.

Ubisoft have got Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender in post-production at Fox and New Regency. There is also the Splinter Cell in development which may star Tom Hardy at Paramount.

What would you like to see in The Division film?
